Okay that was a fun read. I was feeling so good about catching the clues right up into the last couple chapters, but--
--when the whole household started coming out of the woodwork I did have to throw up my hands and go Poirot please tell me what's going on. I am so lost. How did you even see that.
I had a feeling multiple people were abetting (the Swedish lady and Colonel Arbuthnot were my top suspects there) but couldn't figure out who had actually struck the blow. And it certainly never occurred to me that the whole car was in on it. That was a very good twist!
I'm a little bummed that the clue connecting governess "Mrs. Freebody" to Ms. Debenham relied on a (presumably more recognized at the time) cultural reference I had no hope of catching, but so it goes. I wonder if modern adaptations ever update the choice of alias. I probably still wouldn't have gotten it because i do as a rule just believe people who are lying to me, but, y'know.
Anyway i can see why this is a classic! The fake clues are very fun to track right up until the moment you realize they are all absolutely worthless 👌

Evening gown from ca. 1910-1912
It’s made of blue and yellow marquisette over a gold silk under layer. The bottom of the dress has gold sequins and emerald green faux gems. Each sleeve is gathered and decorated with a wired dragonfly.
I can just imagine this gown being worn to an outdoor evening party in the summertime with paper lanterns all around. It was definitely worn for a special occasion!
Label says it’s from Debenham & Freebody department store in London. I believe this location closed in the 1980s.

Today's ootd is this 1926 wedding dress. It's bought at Debenham & Freebody ready to wear, and is made of gold silk chiffon velvet and gold metallic lace. The V&A also writes how the train left a shadow of its floral pattern on the floor beneath it. How lovely!
